Alejandro Jodorowsky talks about what he wanted to accomplish in his film adaptation of Dune. Excerpt from Frank Pavich’s documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune.
Now that I’ve read some of Jodorowsky’s comics, like The Metabarons, I can appreciate just what kind of hallucinatory, visionary stuff he must have been going after. It would’ve made Lynch’s version look like Frank Capra.
It’s unusual that I get this excited about documentaries so long before release. Considering how bent out of shape Herbert purists get over the Lynch version (which has some problems, but source fidelity is pretty low on my list), I can’t imagine how Jodorowsky’s craziness would have gone over if the funding had worked out.
